In September 2013, seven bushes had been planted in honour of girls leaders, during National Arbor Week, within the Botanical Gardens in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal. The division supports the establishment of community projects through regional forestry employees. An estimated R2 million has already been spent from the Community Facilitation Fund to assist the institution of projects on the ground. Current projects embrace the establishment of medicinal plant nurseries, in partnership with numerous stakeholders, and beekeeping, in partnership with the ARC. The division, along with the FPM Seta, provides research bursaries in forestry-related ﬁelds. The schools of agricultural and forestry sciences on the universities of Stellenbosch, KwaZulu-Natal and Venda supply forestry degrees.
